Mi Casa Su Casa Calling...

Since my daughter learned how to dial my cell phone (she knows no other number but mine) from our house phone (land line) she has called me 56 times since yesterday. Just for today, she called me 35 times. Complain pa nag-voicemail eh….

I have my house phone as “mi casa su casa” in my phone book. I guess I should change it now to “Mi Unica Hija.”

If you are curious what are her messages, here's some that i can remember:
..."what time is it mom?"...like 15 times
..."i'm awake mom...
..."i'm back mom....(with the step daughter they went to the college)
..."are you driving?"..
..."are you coming home now?"...
..."where's papa?"...
..."i farted!!!!"....ooopss,
..."papa's home"...
..."i miss you mom or ''i really miss you mom" (like all the time...luv' it)
..."i was crying on the bed"...(after i told her to stop calling me for a while cuz i'm doing something)
..."i'm eating popcorn...

The Graduates

We have two graduates in the family this year. First, the step daughter graduated from senior high last Tuesday p.m. It was held at the school’s football field. It was a 2 hour simple but touching ceremony. After their graduation, all the graduates were treated by the school to a surprise dinner plus dancing (maybe) to undisclosed hotel. They will be at the hotel for the whole night until 6 a.m. but with the supervision of their teachers. In the morning of the same day, it was Isabella’s pre-k’s last day of school. There is no graduation ceremony for pre-k’s but they had a themed beach party in school.

Bagyong Feria

I was on the phone with my mother who is in Manila right now. She is with my two brothers and my aunt for a vacation. I called them to check if how they are affected by the storm Feria. They are ok and told me that their supposed flight today was cancelled and is moved for tomorrow. The line was breaking so I just keep the converstion short. My brother's cell phone cannot pick up a strong signal. I'll wait until they get home for more chikahan. To know that they are safe and ok is enough for me as of the moment.

Bobby's Burger Palace & Father's Day

Bobby's Burger Palace is located at the newly renovated Bergen Town Center Mall in Paramus New Jersey. During weekends, the line is always long. To me this means only one thing. This burger must be good. We were these last Saturday for lunch. I ordered the Palace Classic burger. It was super yummy and juicy certified angus beef burger on a soft bun with american cheese, lettuse, tomatoes and onions. The french fries was good too and the BBP fry sauce was the best. You can view their menus with pricing based on their locations at bobbys burger palace website.

According to hubby, the orange color and design looks so familiar. He remembered, first time he had BBP was at the U.S. Open last year. I think during that time, I had indian cuisine that's why it did not register.

For father's day, we had dinner at Outback Steakhouse today. No pictures to share. I forgot my camera. We were soaking wet on our way to the parking lot. It was pouring AGAIN! What happened to the first day of summer?

I Was Late

I got late in picking up my daughter from school today. I have calculated my travel time from my work to her school but today it was so traffic because they closed two lanes of the highway due to road works. I got stuck there, can’t turn around but suck it up. I know I cannot make it so I called the school secretary that I was running late for 10 minutes. I don’t want to rush so just kept myself cool. There is nothing I can do anymore…what ?...fly? As long as I know that my daughter is safe. She was at the principal’s office with her teacher and another student. This is my first time to be late now that it is only two days away from their last day.

Smiley Alien Pancake

Denny's was our favorite breakfast place during Sundays. There was one about 5 miles away from where I used to live. Oh, those were the days... when me and hubby were still dating! For some reason that denny's restaurant is now gone. So anyway, when we were at South Jersey we happened to stop by Denny's for breakfast. Me and hubby ordered the usual while the daughter ordered a Smiley Alien pancake from the kid's meal.

Here are the pictures: one from the menu and what was given to her:

Did they do a good job?

Rainy Friday Morning Rush

It has been raining again for several days (please go away for the weekend!) and as soon as I enter the highway on my way to work, it was all back up. Not moving at all. Maybe, cars are just slow because it is raining but why a full stop?

Now after a quarter mile, i see this blue light and an arrow/detour sign. Ah ow, not good. There is an accident!

As I get closer, I see a stretcher being pulled out of the ambulance but there is only one truck involved. Maybe he hit the center. Hope he is okay. I said my little prayer and touch my wooden rosary beads hanging at my rear view mirror.

After passing the accident area, you can fly but I did not. I am not a speedy driver specially when it is raining.

Two More Weeks To Go

Today I received from the school the schedule for the remaining days of June. Here they are:

June 15 – trip to a zoo
June 16 – “school spirit day” – wear your school t-shirt
June 17 – incoming pre-k orientation at 2pm
June 18 – kindergarten graduation
June 23 – beach party/barbecue for all students/LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!
School reopens on Wednesday, September 2nd.

HAPPY SUMMER!

So that’s it for my daughter. She will be in kindergarten this September and on a full day schedule (8:30 to 3:05).

The Stair Lift

Our company president is 88 years old today. We had a birthday card and a cake for him. It is a special request that he will be in the office for his birthday celebration.
This man created the company with two other friends in the 1940’s. They named the company after their last names and my boss is the one left. He never stops working. He can live a life anywhere just enjoying his money but he prefers to be with his company until forever. Just recently, they have him stopped driving for security reasons and had gotten him a
Stairlift that takes him to the second level of the building to visit the other employees. There is also one stair lift at his residence so that he does not depend on his wife for moving around the house. Although physically he cannot do things anymore but his mind is still functioning well. He still checks the everyday sales using a magnifying glass and he remembers the entire employee’s name, even those who had left the company. There are around 50 of us here but he calls us by our first name. He refused to live in a nursing home or have a private nurse attend to his needs. Now that it’s his birthday, I wish him health, happiness and more birthdays to come.

The Sunday That Was

1. Had breakfast at mc donalds with my daughter while papa went to play tennis. Originally, she wants bagel as we heading out of the house but after we stopped by Walgreens to buy the Sunday paper we had a change of plan. We went to mcdonalds instead because first, to fulfill my promise to let her play at the playland, and second, so that she has something to do while I read the paper and go through the flyers.

2. Watch at home the French open championship between federer and soderling. Federer won his first French crown. Papa came home to watch the match too (of course, he will not miss it!).

3. Went out to have lunch after watching the French Open on TV. Where else? Olive Garden, our favorite! We are all stuffed!!!

4. So we need to take a nap.

5. Around 4:30 p.m. hubby woke me up and dragged me to the tennis court to play. I have not played in a long time. It was a good exercise (but I’m hurting right now!). While me and hubby play tennis, our daughter is at the playground but If I’m out of breath and needed a rest, my daughter runs fast to get her own racket too! Introducing our future tennis player:

Be A Certified Ethical Hacker

It is 5:00 p.m. but I am still here at work. I was not able to finish my project today because my computer was affected by some virus that I cannot open any programs at all. The IT Security personnel were called down right away to check and get my computer fixed. I work at the accounting department so any problems with computers are taken cared of right away to make sure every customer’s file in the systems are secured. How I envy the jobs a Certified Ethical Hacker. First, they have a good job security despite the recession and second, this profession is one of the highest paid.

A hacker attacks one’s computer system, inflicts it with viruses, stealing information or erase the computers database. This is illegal and this is where the certified ethical hackers come in the picture. They help an organization take preemptive measures against people stealing files or attacking a computer system. Their jobs are within the legal limits and they are the ones that are trusted to go into a network or computer systems in same way the way the malicious hackers are using. They must have a certification for Ethical Hacking.

Interested in ethical hacking? EC-Council has live, online and instructor-led IT security training for IT professionals. They have upcoming classes in Security fundamentals, Ethical Hacking #CEH, Penetration testing, Computer forensics, disaster recovery and secure coding. For more information about their other classes and what schedule would fit your time availability, visit iclass.eccouncil.org.

Mitsuwa Marketplace

Mitsuwa Marketplace is located in Edgewater, New Jersey. It has a supermarket, food court, a lot of restaurants, bookstore, shisheido store, travel agency and a lot more. We always come here to eat specially during weekends. The food court overlooks the hudson river with a nice view of the west side.

You order your food as you see on the display. Just tell them the no. and they will cook it for you. The food court is always packed, so be alert for your order no as they call it when you food is ready. The prices are very reasonable.

This what I ordered from Italian Tomoto. I had the spaghetti with zucchini and shrimps. A japanese style spaghetti with garden salad, bun and a soda for around $6.

Hubby had this shrimp tempura hot soba noodle from Kayaba Restaurant. Its a big bowl of noodles for $6. Iced lemon water or tea is available at the food court for free.
