Our Neighbor is a Cop

Our neighbor is the chief of police in town. Early morning I see him jog around the neighborhood while I walk my daughter to school. At one instance I saw him at the town center and he looks so different in his 5.11 tactical uniform. I did not recognize him but he came to me and said hi. My husband was laughing when I told him about the incident. Sorry chief.

Friday Night

Papa was craving for some palabok so we went to cusinera in Bergenfield but since it was almost 7pm they ran out. We could not wait. Next door is Backyard grill (papa’s friend friend friend owns it- gets?), so we went. Food was ok. We ordered ribs and chicken bbq plus chop suey, all came up to $18.00 including a can of diet soda. Not bad. I saw some customers ordered chicaron bulaklak and crispy pata – all looked so good, maybe next time we will get that. Calories calling here!!!

After we dinner, we walked to a Filipino store to buy our favorite hopia (I have to take a picture I forgot the brand), boy bawang, tuyo and yan-yan for my daughter.

Driving Without a License

At lunch break today, I was supposed to go to Target (which is nearby from my job) but I can not find my wallet. I thought I just misplaced it or took it out from my purse when the coffee truck came. Nope – nowhere here at my job. I forgot it at home, it’s still at my tennis bag because we went to play tennis yesterday and I knew I brought it along with my cell phone. I remember taking out my cell phone last night but not the wallet. Now that I know I don’t have a driver’s license you cannot make me drive on the road. Forget about Target. I already spoke to my husband and he is coming over when he gets off from his job and after picking up Isabella. He is not happy but I said this is cheaper that being pulled over without a license. Well, this is the thing. This morning coming to work I was fine because I don’t know that I don’t have my DL with me but not now that I am aware of I am scared. I have not been pulled over but sometimes when you don’t have it that’s the time you get caught. How much is driving without a license now ? I heard it’s almost $200! Geez!

Let's Play Bingo

When I was a little kid, I do not have much games or entertainment as the kids today. But his does not mean I did not enjoy my childhood life. Of course I did. If I can only be a kid again, I will not have any second thoughts at all. I remember my mother bought me a bingo game and I could still picture out the little plastic container where you put all the numbers, the bingo cards and we use corn seeds to mark it. It was fun playing with my family and friends. I only wish that one day when we go home for vacation to the Philippines my daughter would be able to play the bingo game that mommy used to enjoy.

Gabby Concepcion's Dad Passes Away

It was in the news last night at TFC’s TV Patrol that Gabby Concepcion’s dad Rollie Concepcion passed away Tuesday night at Lourdes Hospital in Mandaluyong. He has been sick with heart ailment and this is the reason also why Gabby decided to come home to be with his father who cannot travel anymore to visit him. He has been back in Manila since last March after 13 years in the U.S. and they had a big reunion during his father’s birthday few month’s ago. Rollie Concepcion was 72 and his wake is being held at the Montessori de San Juan at the Concepcion compound and will be transferred to Loyola Memorial. Interment will be on Friday.

My Cleaning Helper

This S.O.S. has been my buddy when I do my cleaning in my kitchen. Even the toughest grease like those hard to remove after you fry something or even those dark spots under the pan, kaya nito. I've got Mail from Google

I received a mail today from Google Adsense. They sent me the PIN number for my account so that I would be able to receive my payment from them. This is just to make sure that I am the correct person receiving the $$. Dried Mangoes

Dried mango is one of my favorite food or sweets. The good ones are those coming from Cebu. When I was still in the Philippines I like it but I really don’t but it as much because I think it was quite expensive for me. Autumn is Here

Summer is officially gone before noon time today. Today is the first day of Autumn or Fall. Good bye fun days of summer.
There are a lot of changes when fall comes. Now that we start to feel the 50’s temperature when we wake up in the morning, soon the trees will change its colors. It will take few more weeks before the trees in my area will start to turn to yellow/orange but in upstate New York I’ve seen some changes already. Usually they go early probably because they are closer to Canada where it is colder there.
We will start wearing light jackets or hoodies now. It gets cold when the sun disappears. This morning the sunrise was at 6:40 am (getting late) and the sunsets at 6:53 pm. During summer, our sunset was normally close to 9pm. It’s not time yet for heavy jackets and snow boots but that will come sooner. We just have to say goodbye to tank tops (can be used an inner shirts nalang), shorts, flip flops and whites (?). This I really do not agree. Some people say you can not wear white after labor day, but what happens to winter white? To me, white is beautiful during the winter but not white shoes though.
So what we looking forward to? First is Halloween, then Thanksgiving and shoppingduring black Friday. Christmas is only 95 days away then we bid goodbye to another year. Ooops, no fast forward yet. Sorry, I was too fast. I am not excited but let’s enjoy the fall.

Only House Standing

This house is the only one standing and still in one piece in Gilchrist, Texas after hurricane Ike slammed the coast with winds up to 110 mph. How did this house survive the big hurricane? A lot would not believe saying that this picture is fake when it came out on the internet. But, a sister of the owner Pam Adams (and her husband Warren) saw it and confirmed that it’s her sister’s house. Well, this house has already been destroyed by hurricane Rita in 2005 made the couple to build another one but this they made sure it will be toppled down by any hurricane. They hired a contractor that can build them a house that can withstand a hurricane 5. They made sure it will be done right. So there’s the finish product. Their house , standing lonely all by itself on the coast but seemed untouched by Ike (from the outside). Texas residents have started to go back to their hometowns to survey and see the damages the storm has brought to their homes, properties, towns and even to themselves.

Better Late than Never

I just finished dropping ec's for my blogs. I started late around 10pm because I fell asleep while watching tv and my daughter was in the computer. Actually, I really don't want to miss a day without dropping some ec's to compensate the effort of fellow entrecard droppers who took time to drop. First I will check how many already dropped on my site then I make extra 10 or 15 on top of those who drop to make sure I got everybody covered. It's quite late but I was done before the day is over.

I got home pretty early today but we went to Lowe's to buy some caulk for the bathroom and the iron coil for our oven. We can not decide where to go for dinner so we ended up taking out meatlovers pizza and buffalo wings from pizza hut. Papa would rather love to eat in front of his new toy/tv (i'll blog about this when i take a picture of it) than in a restaurant these days. I'm not complaining if we can save, you know.

My Car

This is my dear car. It’s 5 years old, still running great. I love my car, roomy and efficient with gas. Yesterday, after I drop off my daughter, when I started it, nothing happened. I said, that’s odd because I never miss it on the first try. Tried it again, it started but I saw this service engine soon light on. O, oh, not good. Sometimes, it’s just the gas cap that was incorrectly put back but I check that still the light is on. I hope this is nothing serious. I have been good with my car’s maintenance. Hope it will not give up on me this early. You are my boo, you know that, right? Story behind it. When I bought this car, Nelly’s song was a hit ....”no matter what I do, all I think about is you, even though I’m with MY BOO, ya know I’m crazy over you…” So, I named her “Boo” not dilemma. Now, I can’t get this song off my head. Let me get my Ipod now.

This morning when I woke up I felt a little cold breeze coming from the outside. It is still summer officially but how difficult it is to bid summer goodbye for now. By Monday next week is the first day of Fall.

How was your summer? For us, we had a good time and being a resident of New Jersey we had so many places to go to during summer. Our weekends were normally spent at the Jersey shore for a family beach vacation. We are so lucky that it is only an hour and a half drive from our house.

A Filipino man, native of Cebu, Amante Enad was found guilty in Illinois for roasting pigs or lechon in his home. This was brought about by a complaint filed by one of their villagers against Enad which led inspectors to check Enad’s place and found five roasters on his property indicating that he was in a food business. Enad denied it saying that he was only cooking for free like in celebration of Cebu’s fiesta called sinulog. Enad was issued two citations : 1.” operating a business in a residential area & 2.preparing food for mass consumption without certification or license.” – which was also an issue of safety being that he is an unlicensed cook. He was spared from paying a fine of $1000 but he is forever barred from doing the same thing. He is not prohibited from exercising his rights and observing traditions like “fiestas” as long as he does not do it for mass consumption.

Anti-Poleez Losenges

My husband has one night every two weeks to hang out with his buddies. They usually go to someone’s house, have some barbecue, drinking and loud laughters. He does not drive when he drinks so he calls us when he is ready to come home. As soon as her see us pull over he would kiss my daughter and Isabella does not like it, she hates beer smell. One night, my daughter was not complaining at all, I said, “What did you do?” Papa said, “I antipoleez her!” It worked. My daughter did not even smell the alcohol. Wow, great product!

Update on my Daughter & School

The past days were all crying blues everytime mommy drops her off, today was something different. I asked my friend if she can bring my daughter to school and just to see the difference if mommy is not around. Yes, it was a success! She did not cry, allowed herself to be left behind inside the classroom. I felt so relieved. If she can do this for me until my daughter gets so adjusted I will be so happy. I really don’t like the scenario between me and her when I leave because she cries like with so much pain and I like school to be a friendly experience for her. In fairness, my daughter knows how to read and write now (learning from home) but it’s time for her to be in school. Let’s see what happens when she gets home at lunchtime.

Remembering 9/11

Today marks the 7th anniversary of 9/11. In New York, there will be moments of silence at the exact time the towers were hit by two hijacked planes that crashed into the world trade center and also the time when the towers collapsed. All the names of the 2751 people killed were be read today at ground zero’s ceremony. Ceremonies will also be held in Pennsylvania and the Pentagon where two other hijacked airliners were crashed.

Fixing our House Phone

Our house phone has no dial tone for more than a month now. Right at this moment, as I am blogging, I am on hold with a Verizon guy figuring out what is wrong with our phone at home. A month ago, I gave them a call but I spoke to somebody who was not even helpful, all he said, there was a problem with the ground fault and we need a electrician and it is at our own expense. That does not sound right. I did not pay attention to what he said/to our phone anymore, left it unfix anyway we all live with our cellphones. Since I was not busy at work today, I gave Verizon repair a call again and this guy Ed (a fiber optic tech tsu tsu) was so helpful and patient. So, hopefully we get our dial tone back today. They are trying to fix it remotely ‘coz I was like..”is he already at my house?”..No, Ed said..”we are doing it remotely.” Ow, cool! I asked him, “ are we both in the U.S.?”, he laughed and said, “I’m actually in CA.” This is not a surprise anymore because there are a lot of call centers located out of the country, like Phil. and have spoke to them several times when I call the 800 numbers. So, I hope it gets fixed today.

I miss our house phone, I thought I won’t. We have lost hundreds of rollover minutes already since we have been using our cellphones a lot lately. Our monthly fee does not change even it is not working so might as well get this fix and done.

We have been living in a two bedroom condominium since 2004 and as the baby grows I think we need a bigger space and a backyard for barbecues, family gathering and birthdays. Another addition to the family is my step daughter who will be joining us soon from the Philippines. My husband and I have been talking about buying a single family home since they have been saying that this is the best time to buy a house because it is a buyer's market. That is actually the least of our worries. We are more concerned about our financial situation. Right now, we are still paying two car notes and some credit card bills so we are looking to consolidate debt first to ease up with our monthly payments. At least, if we would be able to lower our monthly payments we could save money for a down payment on a house.

I went to bills.com help page and found relevant ways and means of consolidating your debts. I spoke to my husband regarding it and we came up with a solution which is to get a consolidate debt loan. Probably we may end up with a single large debt but it will eliminate several small debts. This would be manageable for us because we will be paying only one bill every month. We just need to cut off unnecessary expenses to be able to make a larger payment every month until we can clean off our debts and buy that house sooner.

I am not good in photography and every time I take pictures I have to do some editing before heading to the printer. My Dymo Label Maker

My daughter’s first day of school was Wednesday last week. She started pre-k at our town’s elementary school. I am just lucky that they offered this in my town otherwise I would be paying if I put her on a private school. I have already met her teachers, school’s administration during the orientation. They also showed us their classroom and activity area which are all very impressive. During the orientation, one of the things emphasized by the principal is to label and put names on all their school stuffs, from their lunch boxes, books bags and its contents to everything that would be left inside their lockers like extra set of clothes, books, file folders for her big sister and a lot more. The principal said that he does not want anything to get lost and since kids still do not know how to look after their things, having them labeled will help the teachers organize all the students' school stuffs. This labeling was never a problem to me because I have this dymo labelmaker. Anything that you want to write on your label, you can just use word or outlook to print your own label. Every day I use this dymo labelwriter to create label for her snack and box drinks. This is really handy for a mom like me who has a little girl that go to school every day.

Our Sunday

It was a beautiful day yesterday after the stormy saturday we had. In the morning, my hubby went to play tennis (as usual) then at around 11:30 am, we just decided to have a lunch instead. Too late for breakfast and I did not cook. We went to Applebees. I did not bring any camera for some photos but I had the trio of taditional buffalo wings, quesadilla and mini cheeseburgers. Hubby has the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes ( so good!) while my daughter has the kid's meal of pasta with marinara sauce. Applebees was just across to Costco so off we went afterwards to buy water, cheerios, fruits, milk and jasmine rice. Buti naman they never ran out of jasmine rice now. We learned our lesson, we never let the whole bag go empty before buying another one. We always have 1 extra unopened. From Costco, we went to another supermarket to buy some stuffs that we don't need in big bulks. Got home before 4pm in time to watch the continuation of Nadal vs. Murray match which was cut short Saturday because of the rain. Murray won over Nadal which made Papa so happy. His prediction may be true - Murray will be the champ of the U.S. Open. So that's the update for now. Have a happy monday.

Cheapest Carwash

If only my car can talk he would request for a bath. Sorry car. While I was driving yesterday, I saw a drive thru carwash sign for $3.74 to tax. What dah! Yes, it's $3.74. So I went, gave the guy $5 bucks and my car was shiny and clean again. It even includes a towel dry so I gave him a tip. What's the difference between this and the $8 one near my job? Nothing! One thing more that made me happy is that gas is cheaper than a carwash now. I saw one for $3.31. Go down a little bit more and we all be happy, happy, joy, joy.

High Demand for Medical Careers

If you want to have a stable job, get involved in the medical field. You can become an ultrasound technician by enrolling in courses offered by various ultrasound schools in your county or state. I have been also looking for sonography schools in my area since my husband had mentioned that the hospital where he works at has several openings for this job. I have been wanting to shift to medical field and I think this could be the chance. Wish me luck and I think I made the right decision.

The Top 4 of the U.S. Open

Today is the best day to go to the U.S. open. It's the semi's and these big 4 are playing. The top 3 are in the semi's: Rafael Nadal (#1-Esp), Roger Federer (#2-Sui), Novak Djokovic (#3-srb) and Andy Murray (#6-Gbr) ---Federerrer vs. Djokovic, Nadal vs. Murray. For me, I like Federer to win, he has not win a grandslam yet for this year and hope this is not the last. I like him because of his calmness - no air. Hubby is hoping Murray will win the Open. We got so close to Murray when we were at the Open, had my Lacoste cap signed by him. Hubby got impress of how he accommodates his fans. For Nadal, this is not his surface but if he wins he gets additional $1 million on top of the $1.5 from the Open being that he is the No.1 at the U.S. Open Series. Let's see and Djokovic is dangerous too. This could be his first if he wins. I don't know if Roddick's fans would cheer for him after he got booed the other night commenting on how Roddick joke about his "16 injuries and faking" in an interview.

Weather permitting, the game will start at 11:00 a.m eastern time. Storm Hannah is making some threats to make a landfall today around mid afternoon. If not, it will be rescheduled tomorrow.

My daughter's first day in School

Yesterday was Isabella's first day as Pre-K. She go now to our town elementary school who offers pre-k. Not all towns here offer pre-k, luckily my town does. She was all excited the day before while we prepare the list of things she needs to bring and also in the morning. We got there 5 minutes before the school starts. So excited she was first in line. Said goodbye, then I left. I went to do my errands, she gets off at 10:45 am. I was there on time, so excited to see her face while their teacher dismisses them one by one. When Isabella's name was called, right away the teacher told me she went outside the building 2x, was crying and scratching some classmates. I was so embarrased and you know what my daughter said. "I thought you got lost mommy, I'm so happy I found you." My poor daughter, probably her heart was so heavy the whole time she was in school..like where's my mom? I don't know anybody here!!! It was her first time to be out by herself with nobody that she knows.

Today is the second day. I insisted that she go. Her teacher was kind enough to let me bring her to her class but got a problem. She does not want me to let go. So I stayed a little bit, did some writing with her, helped her in the bathroom...you know...all those delaying tactics so that mommy can stay longer. After I spoke to her (several time already since yesterday) that mommy is not lost and will be back, she kinda relax herself and said ba-bye. I was keeping my fingers crossed. After 45 minutes that I got home, her teacher called me that she still does not stop crying and asked me to speak to her over the phone. She haven't called back yet. I hope it worked. It's a big separation problem. I hope she gets over it soon and enjoy school.

Too Early for Xmas

Since it's a holiday today, I was able to watch Boy & Kris and Umagang Kay Ganda on TFC. Ano ba 'yan! They are playing christmas songs already!!! Not only that, they have christmas trees, santa claus and all! I think it's too early. Kasi "ber" na ganun! I know it's still 115 days before christmas and it will be here before we know it pero to hear christmas carols already...parang gusto mo tuloy umuwi sa philippines. Well, I guess I should get used to it because we have TFC now and I know today is only the 1st day of the "ber" months what more as christmas gets closer and closer. Dito kase we only start the spirit of chirstmas after thanksgiving.

A Digital Photo Album

I love taking pictures. I always
have a digital camera in my purse to capture every moment that I would like to treasure. I can never leave my house without one, it has become a habit especially since I had my daughter. I want her to see her childhood through the photos that I keep. If you ask me how many pictures I have taken, it maybe in the thousands already. Louisiana and Hurricane Gustav

Let us all pray together that Louisiana and the neighboring towns will not be hardly hit by hurricane Gustav. Hurricane Katrina is only 3 years ago and still fresh in our minds. Gustav is making it's landfall anytime soon but right now they are already experiencing heavy rains and strong winds of up to 100 mph or more as the hurricane comes closer. Hope the levee can hold up to the storm. All my prayers for the safety of everybody.
