Ruben, A season 2 American Idol Winner, got married over the weekend at his hometown in Birmingham, Alabama. The lucky bride is Surata Zuri McCants. He wore a black tuxedo with white bow and the bride wore a white and ivory gown. I heard over the radio this morning, that Ruben met his wife when he was doing album promotion two years ago in Walmart, she came for this autograph. Afterwards, Ruben followed her at the toy’s department and asked for her telephone no. The rest is history.

Millionaires convicted for maltreating househelps

A millionaire couple from Long Island New York who owns a perfumery business were convicted Thursday on forced labor, conspiracy, involuntary servitude and harboring aliens. The wife, Varsha Sabhani, 46, was sentenced to 11 years in prison and the husband Mahendar Sebhani, 51, to not more than 3 years. The husband was charged also because he allowed the maltreatment to take place and he also benefited from the work the women performed in their house. The victims are Samirah and Enung from Indonesia. They testified that they were beaten, slashed with knives, forced to take freezing showers as punishment for their misdeeds like sleeping late or stealing food from garbage because they were not fed. One victim even told the judge that she was force to eat chili peppers and to swallow her vomit because she cannot eat those peppers. They were not emancipated directly, only their families in Indonesia were sent $100 a month. Their passports and travel documents were confiscated from them. This torture ended when one of them was able to escape in 2007 (early morning of Mother’s Day) and seek help in a nearby Dunkin Donuts shop.
The husband is still out on $4.5 million bail with 24 hour security until he surrenders on October 30. They own a 2 million home in Long Island and the perfume business is being operated adjacent to their house. No decision yet as to much are these women are entitled as backwages and overtime. As of now they are being kept in an undisclosed place in New York by Catholic Charities.

No More Bed Bugs

My cousin works in one of the nusing homes here. He is in charge of the housekeeping and he once told me that the nursing home is infected with bed bugs. They have tried several ways of getting rid of bed bugs but were not totally successful so now the nursing home is investing a good amount of money in changing all the mattresses to be able to protect the patients from getting illnesses. They also hired a regular exterminator to maintain the place as bed bug free.

Feeling Better

Thanks to everybody who have been asking how's my daughter. She is feeling better now. Yesterday I took her to the doctor just to make sure it's nothing because the fever is not totally out. She was tested for strep throat, thank God it's negative but the doctor said they still want to send the specimen to the lab although their test is always 99% accurate. I'm not really worried because she eats and drinks a lot of water. It's just that sometimes when Motrin wears off, she's kinda warm again. Today, I did not give her any Motrin at all, she is home watching wubZy, dora, 64 zoo lane, blues, etc. etc...basta channel 226 daw.

Back online @ home

Yehey, i just finished fixing my computer at home. The DOS crashed last week and over the weekend I was not able to go online. I was on the verge of buying a new one but if i could still do something, save at least $600 right? So now it's up and running again, here I am doing some updates. I could blogging at work pero di garapal at baka mahalata ang lola nyo!

Not a yehey, my daughter is sick. She is running a fever on and off since last night. I just stayed 'til 1:30 at work today to be with her early. She threw up and right now she is sleeping but still warm. I will give another night otherwise we will be at the doctor's office tomorrow morning but i hope she feels better soon.

Dress up for Halloween

One of the holidays that people spend a lot of money is halloween. They spend money to buy their favorite halloween costumes. Kids costumes are the cutest and sometimes the most expensive featuring their favorite cartoon characters. I think I will get my daughter a dora the explorer costume this halloween. On halloween night, me and hubby got invited to a halloween party where we have to be dressed as partners. I've been eyeing this couples costumes called plug and socket set. I hope we will win the best costume of the night. We have been attending this party every year and we always come home with a prize.

Judy Ann And Ryan engaged!

It is confirmed that Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo are engaged. The proposal was during Judy Ann’s 30th birthday celebration last May 11th at Antulang Beach Resort in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. In and out of the office

I have been in and out of work since yesterday. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday so I was out for 2 hours then today I was out again because it was my daughter's school orientation. This Friday, I have a dentist appointment at 1:00 pm. This time I'm not sure if I will be coming back to work after the appointment.

The orientation went well. Isabella was able to meet her future classmates and teachers. We also visited the classrooms. My daughter was super excited and while the parents were inside the gym for the orientation all the kids were inside the classroom for a story book reading. When they came out they all have packets full of school materials. Hay, meron na akong schoolgirl.

Ces Drilon and Co. RELEASED!!!

I just read online that Ces Drilon together with her camera man Jimmy Encarnacion and their guide Professor Dinampo were recently released from captivity in Sulu Tuesday night (Philippine time). The three are now with the police. The other cameraman was released earlier last June 12th. They were held captives for 9 days by armed men believed to me members of the Abu Sayaf. In the meantime they will be brought to Zamboanga City for medical check up and briefing. The team who negotiated their released were headed by Sulu Governor and Vice Governor. That is the breaking for now. Let's wait and see for more updates. Let us all be thankful they are all safe and unharmed.

Today is Friday the 13th. Are you one of those that believes Friday the 13th is an unlucky day? When I was still in school (19 kopong-kopong) I remembered asking my teacher why it is considered as unlucky day. She said because of some Christian beliefs that Jesus was crucified on a Friday and the big flood started on a Friday. On the other hand, I read an article in reuters that based on Dutch statistics, they found out that Friday the 13th turned out to be safer than an ordinary Fridays. There were fewer reports of accidents, fire and theft recorded. Isn’t it because it turned out that everyone became so careful on Friday the 13th? It worked well if that’s the case. For me, I don’t have any beliefs on Friday the 13th. I try to be very careful everyday not just on Friday the 13th.

Our house is located in such a way that our bedroom window gets directly the morning sun and our tv room gets the afternoon sun. It is really glaring. In the morning, it gets so bright which is good if you have to wake up early but during weekends where you want extra hours of sleep, you don't like that sun right on your face. Same at the tv room, the glare of the sun between 1-4 pm is directly on the tv. You can't see any image on the tv screen anymore. We have found a solution on these problems. Mom is home alone

I am home alone right now. Ishi and her dad went to my BIL's house to see my other BIL and his son from Philippines. They are here for 5 days only and off they go to Las Vegas to watch the Pacquiao match. I was supposed to meet them for dinner but they are still at the outlet shopping. I'm not used to a quiet house and only the TV is making noise. I miss the screaming and pangungulit ni Issa. I know they will be home anytime soon because it's almost 10pm and stores close at 9pm. My BIL loves to shop and he does not waste a day when he is here. Sino ba naman di maloloka sa shopping dito lalo na pag sale, right?

Abs-cbn reporter missing in Sulu

Abs-cbn news senior correspondent Ces Orena Drilon together with two cameramen Jimmy Encarnacion and Angelo Valderama were reported missing or abducted in Sulu. It was reported that they were abducted by armed men suspected to be members of Abu Sayaf. There is no ransom or demands of money being received yet. A university professor, Octavio Dinampo, who served as their guide was reportedly released. Drilon’s group was ther e to do a big story. Hope they come home safely and unharmed.

Brocolli - my favorite!

This was taken when we went to the outlet store and during lunch I got her the kids meal while her dad got beef and brocolli. Kinain yung brocolli, ayaw sa mcdonalds. The Champs of the French Open

TENNIS - Women’s championship was held Saturday and Ana Ivanovic (Serbian) got her first grand slam title by beating Dinara Safina (Russian) in straight set 6-4, 6-3. Ivanovic is the first woman from Serbia to win a major title. Because of this Grand Slam, she became the new No. 1 in women’s tennis, taking Maria Sharapova’s spot. Sharapova lost in the fourth round at the Roland Garros.On the Men’s Finals over Roger Federer (No.1) and Rafael Nadal (No.2 ), Nadal again got his 4th French Open title beating Federer in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. Nadal’s victory was somewhat expected but the scores surprised everybody. They said it was Federer’s ugliest loss in his grand slam matches to the point that Federer was screaming to himself. Well, the French remains elusive to Federer and still Rafael Nadal holds the title as King of Clay.

it's gonna be hot, hot, hot!!!

We are experiencing a heat wave here. The weekend was very hot and humid, above 95 degrees, maybe in the 100’s. We just stayed indoor most of the time and the killer is when you go inside the car after it has been parked under the heat of the sun for hours. Yesterday, I had a really bad headache because of this hot weather. First we did laundry then hubby wants to go to Costco. As a sidenote, we were able to buy jasmine rice at costco for $17+, they stopped selling this for a while but we saw some on the shelves yesterday. Back to what I was saying, the car was like an oven when I hop in after just an hour at costco. This triggered my headache, then we stopped by BK to get some food then another stop for hubby’s Heineken light. OMG, can’t wait to be home and be in a cold place. Today is going to be hotter and tomorrow too.

Nadal vs Federrer at the French Open Again

Tennis – The French Open Finals for men is on Sunday, June 8th. It’s Federer (No.1) versus Nadal (No. 2) once again. Federer beat Gael Monfils (No. 59th, and his first major semifinals) and Nadal beat Djokovic (no. 3) at the semi-finals. This Sunday’s championship match is their third consecutive French Open final and more in the coming years. If Nadal wins, he will be the first one after Borg to win the French Open four years in a row. If Federer wins, this will be his first French Open and will be the sixth tennis player to complete the grandslam.

I don’t think I would be able to talk to Papa the whole time the match is on tomorrow. Papa is for Nadal, I’m neutral . I like Djokovic. More power to tennis! And, Wimbledon starts in two weeks?, WOW!

I am beat

TGiF!

I am leaving early from work today. I am so beat. I did not even had my lunch break. Summertime is our peak season at my job and as much as possible they always request from you not to take your vacation between the months of June to August. My co-worker is on maternity leave so I have more workload to do. I don't mind actually, I'd rather be busy than being idle. So busy at work but still I was able to grab some opps. That's the best part. So guys and gals, happy weekend to all. For 4 days straight, I think we are going to be in the 90's here. We have to be in the water over the weekend to chill out and have the AC at home in full blast. Have a fantabulous weekend everyone. Later.

Fire at Universal Studios

Universal Studios at Universal City, California was partially destroyed by an early morning fire last Sunday. The huge fire broke out at the backlot of the studio destroying a sound stage, movie sets including New York, New England and King Kong streetscapes. The King kong attraction, courthouse from "Back to the Future", and the streetscape from "Spiderman 2 and "Transformers" were destroyed. Around 40,000 to 50,000 videos were also burned but according to the chief operating officer of Universal Studios, nothing irreplaceable was lost. The fire was burning for about 12 hours and around 500 firefighters were battling the blaze. The theme park and the popular City Walk were spared and was open Monday to visitors and they got a fresh view of a real-life disaster in the world of make believe. No reports yet of what caused the fire and it is still under investigation.
