galunggong

I fried some galunggong last night and how it stinked the whole house. In English, it is called mackarel scab but in the Philippines it is known as galunggong or tinapa, GG for short. Back home, we used to buy the cooked smoked galunggong. I bought this one from the oriental store. There were 5 pieces in a pack, fresh, all cleaned, no heads. I cut the tails out, marinade them in soy sauce and lemon juice for ½ hour. Papa wants them crispy fried and he likes the belly part while I like the back part because there is more meat. It was so delicious and the flesh is so tasty. I eat this with soy sauce, lemon or kalamansi juice and a little chili paste. I forgot to buy some green mangoes. It would be perfect with the galunggong and my daughter loves it too. She keeps on saying, “more fish, more fish mommy.”
I lighted 5 candles to keep the smell away, spray freshener, and turned on the exhaust full blast. If could only hear what my neighbors are saying…sorry neighbors!

Have a nice weekend to all!
